Sen. Reid Beefs up “Base Bill” to Destroy Gun Ownership "Unholy alliances" could become a concern We now know a lot more about what's going to happen with gun control legislation than we did a few days ago. First, the number of the bill we are fighting is S. 649. Harry Reid introduced it on Thursday and brought it directly onto the Senate calendar. This means the bill can now come up at any time — probably soon after the Easter recess is over. Second, the bill is a lot worse than even we anticipated. We expected it to contain the Veterans Gun Ban, which would mean that you would sell, gift, or raffle a gun in America at the risk of a 15-year prison sentence because of something you didn't know about the veteran/buyer. But, surprisingly to us, the Far Left has convinced Reid to include the original Schumer version of the Universal Registry Bill. This would ban private sales of firearms, unless purchasers first get the permission from the government. If Senators can pass this de facto registration bill, they will be well on the way to confiscation (see, for example, Governor Andrew Cuomo in New York, who has a gun owner registry and has called for gun confiscation). If this bill is passed, Senators will claim that they "broke the back" of gun owners in America. Third, there is still every evidence that Reid will move to proceed to the bill under "regular order," which means he will need 60 votes to advance to the "gun control buffet." GOA has been talking and making our case with a host of Senate Republicans, and we would hope that everyone in the Senate understands the importance of stopping the "motion to proceed" to Reid's gun control legislation. Fourth, as we predicted, anti-gun zealots have begun to use the "ObamaCare Paradigm" to threaten, bribe, and coerce senators into submission on the most far-reaching aspects of gun control, including Feinstein's proposal to ban shotguns, rifles and handguns that millions of Americans legally own. So if the "motion to proceed" to S. 649 is adopted with 60 votes, then Feinstein's ban could be passed in the Senate with only 50 votes (plus Biden). Already, articles are being published to intimidate any Democratic Senator who votes against any gun control and threatening them with the prospect of facing an anti-gun primary challenger — just like we saw on ObamaCare. Fifth, there may be unholy alliances at work which could succeed in achieving a dangerous gun control compromise. One Capitol Hill newspaper is now reporting that "Sen. Joe Manchin and the National Rifle Association are quietly engaged in private talks on a proposal to broaden background checks on purchasers of firearms." We hope this is not true, however you should be aware of this report and use whatever contacts you have to prevent this from happening. Be assured, you can rely on Gun Owners of America to never engage in any compromises! What Would Happen if the Government Banned Firearms and Tried to Confiscate Our Guns?

If you read the summary of Sen. Diane Feinstein’s proposed assault weapons ban (read it here on her Senate page ^[1]) it’s very clear that — despite having no idea what an assault weapon actually is, or how it differs from a semi-automatic hunting rifle (hint: it doesn’t)  — Feinstein’s ultimate motive is no different than it was back in 1995 ^[2] when she was for the complete ban and confiscation of ALL weapons from American citizens:
Dianne Feinstein: “If I could have gotten 51 votes in the Senate of the United States, for an outright ban, picking up [every gun]… Mr. and Mrs. America, turn ‘em all in.”
I was discussing Feinstein’s newest assault on our second amendment rights last night with some neighbors — men who have spent more hours hunting and shooting guns than most people spend watching television. Then I brought up this 1995 video. Our conversation naturally turned to “what if…” scenarios and how they would unfold.

As in, “What if…the government banned all semi-automatic weapons and ordered them be turned in or confiscated from US citizens who would not do so voluntarily?”
We all quickly agreed a violent revolution and rebellion would occur almost immediately. Most, if not all, members of Congress who voted for the ban/confiscation would be assassinated. In fact, what Bob Owens describes in this post “What You’ll See At the Revolution” ^[3] is exactly what we described would happen.

Tens of millions of Americans will refuse to comply with an order that is clearly a violation of the explicit intent of the Second Amendment. Among the most ardent opposing these measures will be military veterans, active duty servicemen, and local law enforcement officers. Many of these individuals will refuse to carry out what they view as Constitutionally illegal orders. Perhaps 40-50 million citizens will view such a law as treason. Perhaps ten percent of those, 4-5 million, would support a rebellion in some way, and maybe 40,000-100,000 Americans will form small independently-functioning active resistance cells, or become lone-wolves.
They will be leaderless, stateless, difficult to track, and considering the number of military veterans that would likely be among their number, extremely skilled at sabotage, assassination, and ambush.
After a number of carefully-planned, highly-publicized, and successful raids by the government, one or more will invariably end “badly.” Whether innocents are gunned down, a city block is burned to ash, or especially fierce resistance leads to a disastrously failed raid doesn’t particularly matter. What matters is that when illusion of the government’s invincibility and infallibility is broken, the hunters will become the hunted.

Which very closely follows the thoughts described in this oft-linked and -discussed post: “What I Saw At The Coup” ^[4].
And the very first prey that would find themselves in the scopes of the rebels would be the members of Congress who passed this ban and the members of the media who have been their willing mouthpieces and agents of propaganda.
You bed-wetting, pantie-wearing effeminate femboy Liberals might think this is a lot of swagger and bravado, and that no way would citizens be able to rise up and violently over-throw a tyrannical government — that’s because you don’t understand or know men that grew up hunting; inherited the rifles and handguns that were handed down from their grandfathers to their fathers and who are teaching their own sons how to hunt and shoot; men who spent a part of their life in uniform, learning military tactics while promising to defend the Constitution from enemies both foreign and domestic.
But I have zero doubt that the scenarios described by both Bob Owens and Matt Bracken would unfold eerily close to as described. And I can promise you that I would not obey any order that required me to register, insure, or turn in my guns. And I would join my neighbors and community in any uprising to defy this usurpation, as instructed by our own Declaration of Independence:

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.–That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, –That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness.

The oath I took as a Soldier to support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic…did not end when I left the military.
But, go ahead, Ms. Feinstein, just go ahead and try to confiscate the guns of tens of millions of law-abiding, freedom-loving citizens. I just hope you’ve seriously considered the consequences.
UPDATE: MARINE TELLS FEINSTEIN, “I WILL NOT BE DISARMED” ^[5]

Boston informed Sen. Feinstein that he will not register his weapons nor does he believe the Senator or anyone else in government has the right to require him to do so. Boston also scoffed at someone proclaiming “the evil of an inanimate object” even as she bestows upon herself the ability to carry a gun in contravention to her own proclamations.
“I am not your subject,” Boston insists. “I am the man who keeps you free. I am not your servant. I am the person whom you serve. I am not your peasant. I am the flesh and blood of America.” I will not be disarmed to suit the fear that has been established by the media and your misinformation campaign against the American public.

Gun Owners of America Harry Reid Prepares to Annihilate Second Amendment “Our Founders intended the Senate to be a body where legislation was slowed down and subject to improvement through extended debate and amendment. [Harry] Reid’s proposed ‘reforms’ would remove two of the most fundamental rights traditionally reserved to all Senators -- to freely debate and amend legislation. I shall not stand for that.” -- Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) On Election Day last November, several Democrat Senators were campaigning for reelection in pro-gun states.  And in order to get their constituents’ votes, they promised fealty to the Second Amendment. May, on November 6, Democrat Senators Joe Manchin (WV), Bob Casey (PA) and Jon Tester (MT) all won their respective elections.  These seats, among others, were crucial to helping Harry Reid return to the top post in the Senate. But only a month after the election returns were tallied, the Senate -- under Majority Leader Harry Reid’s control -- is now crusading to implement: * Gun bans on semiautomatic firearms and magazines; * An effective ban on gun shows; * A ban on private gun sales, without going through a gun dealer; and, * Changes in the Senate rules which would allow them to ban guns with a mere 50 Senate votes. This last proposal is particularly insidious.  Gun grabbers are not going to be able to get 60 votes to break a Senate filibuster of gun control.  But, with the help of fake “pro-gun” Senate Democrats, they may be able to get 50. So the question of whether Senate Democrats will need 50 votes or 60 votes will determine whether gun control -– and much of Obama’s agenda -– will be slammed through and passed into law. This brings us to the “nuclear option.” This is a trick which anti-gun Democrats intend to use the first day of the Senate session in order to obliterate the Senate rules and clear the way for 50-vote passage of gun control. Your senator’s vote on the “nuclear option” may be the most important gun-related vote he casts during the 113th Congress.  It may be the difference between whether Obama can secure Senate passage of gun bans, magazine bans, gun show bans, and bans on private gun sales. Anti-gun Democrats will try to tell you that the Senate is just following its precedents. But that’s a bald-faced lie.  As Democrats made clear during the Bush administration when the Republicans were contemplating the “nuclear option,” the nuclear option has been threatened, but the trigger has never been pulled. Anti-gun Democrats will try to tell you that the “nuclear option” can only be invoked on the first day. That’s a lie.  Senate Rule 5, Paragraph 2, provides that the Senate rules continue from one Congress to the next, unless changed by 67 votes (needed to break a filibuster of rules changes).  If the Senate can use brute force to obliterate Rule 5 by 50 votes, it can use brute force to obliterate any rule at any time by 50 votes. This is a major vote that will have huge ramifications for our republic.  Our gun rights are just one of the many freedoms that are on the chopping block right now.  And if Harry Reid can squelch his opposition by nuking the filibuster, it will be the first step towards completely obliterating our Constitution. Gun Owners of America Stop Dirty Harry from Ramming Gun Control Down our Throats   The Washington Post headline pretty much says it all: “Obama backs [Harry] Reid’s filibuster reform effort.”   Wonder why?   Why, for instance, would Barack Obama support Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s efforts to change the Senate rules, by brute force, so that it would be easier?   To implement the UN Arms Trade Treaty to register, ban, and microstamp firearms? To reinstate the semi-auto ban? Or, to allow Obama to turn anyone into a “prohibited person” and take away their guns, simply by putting them on a secret “watch list”?   To ask such questions is to answer them.  The political Left would love to disarm us all and take away our guns.  To wit, the nation had to endure Bob Costas’ rant over the weekend when he essentially suggested that otherwise law-abiding people shouldn’t have guns.   Click hear to see GOA Executive Director Larry Pratt’s answer and rebuke to Bob Costas for his ill-informed comments in the wake of the Javon Belcher suicide.    But, in order to push a progressive agenda through the Senate, Reid is first going to have to use his deceptive “cheat scheme” in order to change the Senate rules to make it easier to pass the Left’s anti-gun initiatives.   By eliminating the filibuster (on the motion to take up legislation), Reid intends to eliminate our most effective way to kill a bad anti-gun bill -- that is, by weakening or eliminating the time-honored filibuster that makes the Senate so different from the House.   But, even more important, if Reid uses the “nuclear option,” as he’s threatening to do, the Senate no longer has any binding rules. The majority can pass any gun legislation it wants, at any time, by brute force, with 51 votes.   So, did your Senator run for re-election by telling you he or she supported the Second Amendment?  Well, this is their chance to prove it -- or to show you that they’re nothing but bald-faced liars.   There will be no gun vote during the 113th Congress that will be more important than the rules votes.   And that is why it’s imperative that ALL GUN GROUPS are fighting this attempt to nuke the filibuster rules.  Please contact any gun organization that you belong to and ask them if they are actively lobbying against Dirty Harry’s efforts to weaken the filibuster … and against any attempt by him to ram gun control down the throats of the American people!   ACTION:  Click here to write your Senators.
