SGT. STUBBY
WAR DOG HERO!
Meet America's first war dog, a stray Pit Bull/Terrier mix, named Stubby. He became Sgt. Stubby, was the most decorated war dog of World War I and the only dog to be promoted to sergeant through combat.
One day he appeared at Yale Field in New Haven, Connecticut; while a group of soldiers were training, stopping to make friends with soldiers as they drilled. One soldier, Corporal Robert Conroy, developed a fondness for the dog. He named him Stubby because of his short legs. When it became time for the outfit to ship out, Conroy hid Stubby on board the troop ship. In order to keep the dog, the private taught him to salute his commanding officers warming their hearts to him.

Stubby served with the 102nd Infantry, 26th (Yankee) Division in the trenches in France for 18 months and participated in four offensives and 18 battles. The loud noise of the bombs and gun fire did not bother him. He was never content to stay in the trenches but went out and found wounded soldiers.

Stubby entered combat on February 5, 1918 at Chemin Des Dames, north of Soissons, and was under constant fire, day and night for over a month. InApril 1918, during a raid to take Schieprey, Stubby was wounded in the foreleg by the retreating Germans throwing hand grenades. He was sent to the rear for convalescence, and as he had done on the front was able to improve morale. When he recovered from his wounds, Stubby returned to the trenches.

After being gassed and nearly dying himself, Stubby learned to warn his unit of poison gas attacks, continued to locate wounded soldiers in no man's land, and since he could hear the whine of incoming artillery shells before humans could, became very adept at letting his unit know when to duck for cover.

He was solely responsible for capturing a German spy in the Argonne. The spy made the mistake of speaking German to him when they were alone. Stubby knew he was no ally and attacked him biting and holding on to him by the seat of his pants until his comrades could secure him.

Following the retaking of Chateau-Thierry by the US, the thankful women of the town made Stubby a chamois coat on which were pinned his many medals. There is also a legend that while in Paris with Corporal Conroy, Stubby saved a young girl from being hit by a car. At the end of the war, Conroy smuggled Stubby home.

After returning home, Stubby became a celebrity and marched in, and normally led, many parades across the country. He met Presidents Woodrow Wilson, Calvin Coolidge, and Warren G. Harding. Starting in 1921, he attended Georgetown University Law Center with Conroy, and became the Georgetown Hoyas' team mascot. He would be given the football at halftime and would nudge the ball around the field to the amusement of the fans.

Stubby was made a life member of the American Legion, the Red Cross, and the YMCA. In 1921, the Humane Education Society awarded him a specialgold medal for service to his country. It was presented by General John Pershing.

In 1926, Stubby died in Conroy's arms. His remains are featured in The Price of Freedom: Americans at War exhibit at the Smithsonian. Stubby was honored with a brick in the Walk of Honor at the United States World War I monument, Liberty Memorial, in Kansas City at a ceremony held on Armistice Day, November 11, 2006.

QUESTIONS SURROUND "STAR" THE DOG SHOT BY NYPD - WE SHOULD START A FUND FOR HER SUPPORT AND RESCUE...

http://www.examiner.com/article/questions-surround-star-the-dog-shot-by-nypd?cid=db_articles

I'm going to look into this tomorrow and see and publish what I find.  At the very least, the flogging knuckle dragging skinhead m*#(%$$(#&#), should pay the expenses for this dog.  If he kicked the owner (down), and maced her, then shot her and left her, he'd do that to anyone and anything.

And to shoot without consideration of ricochet on a busy street is insane.  I want him tested for steroids and I want him kicked off the force.

NYPD SHOOTS DOG WHILE HER OWNER HAS A SEIZURE ON THE STREET - NICE GOING GUYS!

http://www.care2.com/causes/nypd-shoots-dog-while-her-owner-has-a-seizure.html

"Attack", which was what this was - a cruel and ugly, heartless attack on a dog heroically protecting her ill owner, is not in any way forgivable.  Can you imagine this homeless person waking up on the street or in the hospital and finding out her dog has died protecting her?  "Attack" is on the red alert list of words to be avoided by the Department of Homeland Security.

FBI TRACKING ANIMAL VIDEOTAPERS AS TERRORISTS

http://www.latimes.com/news/local/environment/la-me-gs-fbi-tracking-animal-videotapers-as-terrorists-20111229,0,5919114.story

And I'm told, in large cities, if you're videotaping or taking pictures of interesting architecture, you may be arrested for terrorism!

Really puts a crimp in your rights, possibly your job or avocation, or your vacation!

There ARE NO RIGHTS IN OBAMALAND!

TODAY IS EASTER, AND MANY OF US ALL OVER THE WORLD CELEBRATE KINDNESS, COMPASSION, REDEMPTION IN A TRIUMPH OVER DEATH

All of us have seen the depictions of Christ, a gentle man, surrounded by animals, often carrying a lamb, children, disciples who is the symbol of Christianity, a man of miracles, the epitome of purity and goodness; who would never harm an innocent. Today the Resurrection is celebrated worldwide - the triumph of good over evil, eternal life after death.

And then when I booted up the computer, and the CNN page came up, a video caught my eye.

It was an undercover video taken at a calf ranch in Texas and the vicious cruelty meted out on these innocent animals destined for your table by cruel men without souls. What is it in their mental and emotional makeup that makes cruelty all right?

There are several agricultural states and a Senator (scroll through the blog - you will see the entry about photographing cruelty at ranches, farms, labs and puppy mills and making whistleblowing a felony) from Michigan, I think, who are prepared to lobby for this victory. Florida is one of them.

What you are about to see is so graphic that the tv reporter couldn't allow most of it to be viewed.

I just watched the first minute and burst into tears and sobbing. I have been fortunate enough to have kept livestock in my care since the 1970s. I'm sick about this.

Even if you are not inclined to act on behalf of animal welfare, this is YOUR food supply.

There is a humane way of ending the life of a suffering animal by way of a merciful bullet.

These people are barbarians.

DO NOT LET CHILDREN WATCH THIS VIDEO.
IT IS MUCH TOO DISTURBING.

EXPOSE CRUELTY TO ANIMALS IN LABS, FACTORY FARMS, PUPPY MILLS BY FILM OR AUDIO AND GO TO JAIL IN MINNESOTA! ARE YOU GOING TO STAND FOR THAT?

http://www.care2.com/causes/animal-welfare/blog/five-years-in-jail-for-exposing-animal-abuses-in-minnesota/

I hope not! This is an incredibly cruel piece of legislation and the Republicans love it.

Well, since this is a non-partisan blog, and you know I kick ass on both sides of what is "right", meaning "just", I hope you Minnesotans will call your legislators and get even more involved in endeavors of compassion and whistleblowing.

There is nothing wrong in sparing an animal from cruelty. It is the moral imperative to intervene.

We all know that our legislators are going down a path of corruption and immorality. They have lost their hearts, their souls and their courage. They are sheep. We are worse than sheep if we go along with them.

If you have men who will exclude any of God's creatures from the shelter of compassion and pity, you will have men who will deal likewise with their fellow men. ~St. Francis of Assisi

BEFORE YOU GO TO A PET STORE AND BUY THAT PUPPYMILL PUP OR KITTEN WHO IS UNREGISTERED OR CKC, WATCH THIS. YOU WILL NEVER BE THE SAME.

I recently visited a new local pet shop. The puppies were "CKC" registered, from local "breeders" and came with health certificates. They were being sold - mixed breeds and pure, for outrageous prices and they didn't look well.

Please visit your local animal control. Take a good look at the states who still gas their animals - a hideously cruel death. If you can, I hope this will inspire you to stop this in your community. Gassing should be outlawed and in its place, the merciful injection.

But until we spay, neuter and adopt our companions from animal controls, this wholesale practice of death will occur every single day.

Just watch this video.

It is Sunday.

Pray.
