CNN Hits New Low: Embracing Criminals, Forgetting Victim
The verdict is in, and the reaction by CNN and other media outlets
paints a very disturbing picture of the left wing view of rape and the
rapists. Two high school football players in Steubenville, Ohio were
found guilty of raping a 16-year-old girl, and yet when the verdict was
handed down, CNN went overboard with its sympathy toward the criminals.
What about the actual victim???
As reported by the Washington Post, CNN has come under fire for its breaking news coverage:
Here's some of the transcript:
POPPY HARLOW, CNN CORRESPONDENT: It was incredibly emotional — incredibly difficult even for an outsider like me to watch what happened as these two young men that had such promising futures, star football players, very good students, literally watched as they believe their life fell apart. One of — one of the young men, Ma’lik Richmond, when that sentence came down, he collapsed. He collapsed in the arms of his attorney, Walter Madison. He said to me, “My life is over. No one is going to want me now.”
And more...
PAUL CALLAN, CNN LEGAL CONTRIBUTOR: But in terms of what happens now, yes, the most severe thing with these young men is being labeled as registered sex offenders. That label is now placed on them by Ohio law and, by the way, the laws in most other states now require such a designation in the face of such a serious crime. That will haunt them for the rest of their lives. Employers, when looking up their background, will see they’re registered sex offender. When they move into a new neighborhood and somebody goes on the Internet where these things are posted. Neighbors will know they’re a registered sex offender. It’s really something that will have a lasting impact. Much more of a lasting impact than going to a juvenile facility for one or two years.
What is going on here? Are we to feel sorry for these guys? The
reason they will be "labeled as registered sex offenders" is because
they ARE. They are rapists. And who really cares whether they were "very
good students" with "promising futures?" All those descriptions do is
attempt to paint of picture of these two as sympathetic figures. They
CHOSE to do this. And yet the media paint them as tragic victims? What
about the real one? Do you think she is going to be haunted for the rest
of her life? Do you think this will have a "lasting impact" on her?
And CNN isn't the only one. As reported by The Atlantic Wire:
[T]he media's actually been grieving the ends of these rapists' young lives for a few days now. It's just a little more infuriating now that they're officially guilty. Just before the trial started, for instance, Good Morning America published a sprawling preview under the headline, "The Steubenville Rape Case: What You Haven't Heard." What follows is a retelling of the whole saga with plenty of attention paid to the "honors student" Mays and wrong-side-of-the-tracks Richmond. The piece ends on a sympathetic note, almost bemoaning the fact that the two teens "face incarceration in a detention center until their 21st birthdays and the almost-certain demise of their dreams of playing football."
This is a truly sick society that laments the future of these
rapists while completely disregarding the fact that they are GUILTY of
one of the worst crimes imaginable. What's puzzling is trying to figure
out the agenda of the media in this case. Do they want to blame the
victim? Do they want to send a message that rape is ok? Are they saying
that if you go to a party and drink, the laws don't apply? Whatever it
is, it's just plain sick.
Note:
Remember the 2006 case involving three members of the Duke
University lacrosse team accused of rape? The three accused teammates
were "rich white boys". The "victim" was a African-American female.
The main stream media had a field day with the story, and the LIBERAL DEMOCRAT
Durham County District Attorney had the three young men tried and
convicted, before the case even went to trial (he was later disbarred
and sentenced to time in the "Big House" for his ..., well, for his
somewhat over zealous prosecution of the case). Between the DA, the
press/media, and the angry black mobs, with their torches and
pitchforks, whipped into a frenzy by a disgraceful demonstration of
liberal yellow journalism, the three boys would have been lynched from
the
nearest tall tree ..., until, that is, it was discovered that they were
totally innocent of the charges, and their accuser was a black
stripper, who had made up the story, in order to generate a little extra
cash to take care of her illigitimate children. Ooops!!!
In the case of the two fine upstanding young men from Steubenville, Oh., at least one is black ..., and the victim - a real victim, in this case? Well ..., she's white ..., so, hey, shit happens, right? Life goes on, and she'll get over it.
As for the two upstanding young
gentlemen ..., well, it's tragic how life can be so cruel, isn't it ...,
just when such promising futures lie ahead?
Any questions?
