New blog discovered just today on surviving a failing economy...

From the excellent blog: http://www.survive-economic-collapse.com/blog

"Practice thrift and frugality. There is a wise old saying: “Eat it up, wear it out, make it do, or do without.” Thrift is a practice of not wasting anything. Some people are able to get by because of the absence of expense. They have their shoes resoled, they patch, they mend, they sew, and they save money. They avoid installment buying, and make purchases only after saving enough to pay cash, thus avoiding interest charges. Frugality means to practice careful economy." - Elder James E. Faust

Quote on the DOW from Pelosi - Like she isn't profiting from her portfolios?

"Only the rich benefit from these record highs. Working Americans, welfare recipients, the unemployed and minorities are not sharing in these obscene record highs. There is no question these windfall profits and income created by the Bush administration need to be taxed at 100% rate and those dollars redistributed to the poor and working class. Profits from the stock market do not reward the hard work of our working class who, by their hard work, are responsible for generating these corporate profits that create stock market profits for the rich. We in congress will need to address this issue to either tax these profits or to control the stock market to prevent this unearned income to flow to the rich." -- Nancy Pelosi, 2006

Now there are three calendars on my site at RedBubble.com. Please come and see.

Spank the kids and you're a felon...it happened on Frontier Airlnes

From the following blog:

http://pft2009.blogspot.com/

Homeland Insecurity Inconsistencies

In-flight confrontations can lead to terrorism charges...

Highlights:

Tamera Jo Freeman was on a Frontier Airlines flight to Denver in 2007 when her two children began to quarrel over the window shade and then spilled a Bloody Mary into her lap. She spanked each of them on the thigh with three swats.A flight attendant confronted Freeman, who responded by hurling a few profanities and throwing what remained of a can of tomato juice on the floor. The incident aboard the Frontier flight ultimately led to Freeman's arrest and conviction for a federal felony defined as an act of terrorism under the Patriot Act, the controversial federal law enacted after the 2001 attacks in New York and Washington.

"I had no idea I was breaking the law," said Freeman, 40, who spent three months in jail before pleading guilty. The costs of a conviction can be enormous. In Tamera Freeman's case, it cost her custody of her children.

The confrontation on the Frontier Airlines flight to Denver was particularly harsh, recalled Amy Fleming, the flight attendant who told Freeman to stop spanking her children. In a recent interview, Fleming called Freeman the most unruly passenger she had seen in 11 years on the job."

Absolutely she deserved a felony conviction," she said.

But at least one passenger, John Carlson, a defense attorney who was seated near Freeman, said there was no threat. "There was a nasty, loud exchange," Carlson said. Then Freeman "capitulated and offered no resistance. My sympathy shifted to her."

Last summer, a Boston man who took off his clothes and attempted to open an emergency exit during a flight to Los Angeles was not charged with a crime, even though the plane was forced to make an unscheduled landing in Oklahoma City.

DO YOU UNDERSTAND WHAT IS HAPPENING?

Quote of the Day by Cicero on surviving fools

"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within."

"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murder is less to fear."
Cicero Marcus Tullius - Born on January 3, 106 BC and was murdered on December 7, 43 BC.

USDA,NAIS,Crohnes,Johnes and abolish NAIS

Media Alert! Jim Babka will appear on the Liberty Roundtable tomorrow morning. See the Postscript for details.

Quote of the Day: "The USDA claims it needs to be able to move fast in case of an outbreak of disease. At first blush it sure sounds fine and good, until you consider that people are in the middle of a major epidemic on US dairy farms, and the USDA hasn't moved at all to stop it." - The National Association of Farm Animal Welfare

Subject: From "Voluntary" to Mandatory

Johne's disease is a contagious infection of the small intestine of hoofed animals.

Moreover, the USDA's 2009 budget . . .

  • Slashes the already miniscule funding for Johne's disease eradication
  • While increasing funding for the National Animal Identification System (NAIS)

The rationale for NAIS is that it will better protect America's food supply. But at what cost?

  • More government surveillance powers
  • More expense for ranchers, farmers, and exotic pet owners
  • Less freedom and privacy: If one calf briefly strays, a report must be filed. If a horse-owner goes for a trail ride, a report must be filed.
  • NAIS is supposed to control disease outbreaks, but it does so at the expense of disease eradication programs.

No wonder the people aren't buying it. NAIS was introduced four years ago as a "voluntary" program, but the lack of "volunteers" has the USDA playing hardball. It's proposing rule APHIS-2007-0096 that would . . .

  • Require participants in other USDA disease control programs to adopt a NAIS Premise ID number
  • Phase in a requirement that newborn livestock be issued eartags under a uniform NAIS numbering system

Our assumption that this "voluntary" program would be made mandatory was a big reason DownsizeDC.org launched its anti-NAIS campaign three years ago.

Please join us in fighting this bureaucratic over-reach.

  • Tell Congress to abolish NAIS
  • Remind them that Congress never approved NAIS in the first place, but Congress does have the power to de-fund the program
  • You can also note that NAIS funding is being increased while Johne's Disease eradication programs are being cut. This undermines the rationale for NAIS
  • Make your representatives aware that NAIS is one step closer to being mandatory.

You can send your message using our Educate the Powerful System.

Please also take an extra step. Strike at the root of the mischief-making powers of unelected bureaucrats. Tell Congress to pass DownsizeDC.org's Write the Laws Act.

ADHD Drugs cause wild hallucinations

http://www.naturalnews.com/025433.html

From www.naturalnews.com

My son was wild. He wanted to be the center of attention - the class clown. He was always into mischief in grade school. I hated those calls from school. "He's swinging from the pipes in the boys bathroom", "Your son has been caught with a friend on the roof of the school", "Your son will not control himself in the classroom", "Your son would get better grades if he would just stop talking!"

He made it to junior high just in time to escape the first onslaught of ADHD drugs. I'm sure he would have been asked to take then. By then he was too involved with dirt bikes, his Mongoose bicycle, sports, break dancing, the first attractions to girls and he began to grow out of cutting up, as my mother called it.

He has a wild daughter. My granddaughter is indeed, a free spirit. She begins grammar school this year. I hope that the teachers will not pressure her parents to medicate her. Her brother, two years younger, is a milder boy, but strong-willed. We shall see. I do not trust public schools.

A girl and her dog...What a face!

From JPFO - On that slimebag Chuck Schumer

What's Wrong With This Picture?

By Kirby Ferris

Proponents of “gun control” are screaming bloody murder over Democratic New York Governor David Paterson’s appointment of little known Kirsten Gillibrand to replace Hillary Clinton in the United States Senate.

Now get this: The NRA gives Democrat Congresswoman Gillibrand an “A” for her anti “gun control” stances. This is weird.

Why? Because Governor Paterson has been given an “F” for his “gun control” stances by the same group.

Additionally, insiders report that New York Senator Charles Schumer, of all people, was Gillibrand’s staunchest advocate! Weird upon weird, I say.

In case you didn’t know, Senator Charles Schumer is arguably the most notorious (reviled?) anti gun ownership advocate in the history of American politics, and is ranked at least an “F triple minus“ by every pro gun ownership organization.

So how do you explain Schumer’s advocacy of Gillibrand to Paterson? Seriously, what the heck is going on here?

Did Chuck Schumer get an AR-15 for his birthday, go shooting, and see the error of his ways? Is he planning to turn on (rhetorically) his fellow anti gunners like Dianne Feinstein, Barbara Boxer, and that screeching dingbat Carolyn McCarthy? Nah, something tells me that isn’t what’s going on.

Are Paterson and Schumer sending some sort subtle/not-so-subtle message to President Obama? Does Paterson have some hidden beef with Obama? Does Schumer have some beef with Obama that goes back to the way Madam Clinton was treated during the primaries? After all, Chuck would have been way at the front of the appointments line with a President Hillary. We should never forget that politics is mostly gutter fighting, deceit, and revenge.

And therefore, pro gun activists should not be an all too trusting bunch when it comes to politicians. We’ve been betrayed for decades by people we thought we could count on, recently G.W. Bush and John McCain amongst others.

And now, from out of the woods of upstate New York comes this attractive, blonde, somewhat Sarah Palinesque, gun rights activist to apparently carry our banner into the dragon’s lair? Sorry, but you can color me suspicious.

However, President Obama’s plate is wriggling with immediate, high priority, conundrums. He faces two losing (and socially unpopular) military campaigns in Afghanistan and Iraq. Staring him in the face is a transportation infrastructure falling to pieces, a health care system tattering in the breeze, the somber threat of another 9-11, twenty million illegal aliens ensconced within our borders, a tanking global economy, and an American dollar that is on the ropes.

Could it be that the red herring wavers of “gun control” simply won’t be able to get his ear right now? Is “gun control” maybe (as he has indirectly implied) going to be a non-issue for his first term? Do you believe in the tooth fairy?

And now there is Democrat chatter of Gillibrand doing a “180” on her pro gun stances. Is this a lie to calm the victim disarmament advocates in Liberalville … or is it the truth, and part of a bigger scheme?

Ayn Rand wrote a famous novel titled “Atlas Shrugged”. A memorable line in the book is: “Who is John Galt?” (The answer to the question pays off in the story.)

I would paraphrase Ms. Rand’s question: “Who is Kirsten Gillibrand?” To one degree or another, the answer to that question will pay off in our lives. And pretty soon. You can bet on that.

Democrats introducing new gun control laws...

http://www.newswithviews.com/NWV-News/news122.htm

Time to get on their backs - make calls, Google them and email them. Be relentless. There's a new attitude among the staffers - they may even hang up on you. Do not speak to interns. They have probably been told to ignore the messages. Speak to the aides and get a name. If you aren't from their district, Google up the zip code that will be from their district. They're going to ask you. Be prepared.

The statistics on deaths by government forces in countries who make citizens bow to gun control are more than frightening. Guatemala even banned implements with points (and probably machetes, too).

By Alan Scholl for The New American

The new and heavily liberal legislative bodies now ensconced in Washington and in many statehouses across the nation now pose a slow equivalent to the march on Lexington and Concord that sparked the American Revolution. Taxation, regulation, and government inroads into personal liberty, including gun control, are now proliferating.

Many of our elected officials are using widespread ignorance and fear of guns and the fallout of immorality in the form of crime to help accomplish a disenfranchisement of the Second Amendment piecemeal. They tout their proposals as measures to prevent crime or capture criminals, while completely ignoring the rights of victims and the average citizen.

A prime current example is the widespread spate of ammunition identification bills, proposed at the state level, all of which are very similar to the 2005/6 California legislature ammunition serialization bill, AB 352.

AB 352 was passed by both houses of the California legislature, but died in conference on November 30, 2006. Similar bills are now spreading across the nation for review under the new more liberal 2009 array of state legislators.

California was a close call. The good news is that even though ammunition serialization resolutions were introduced in five states in 2007 and 18 states in 2008, not a single resolution passed in any state. The bad news is that many state legislatures have become much more gun-control-friendly in the aftermath of the 2008 elections. These same ammunition serialization bills may not be defeated or allowed to die during this 2009/10 legislative cycle, as was the case in the past.

The ammunition serialization campaign is being organized by Ammunition Accountability, a lobbying arm of Ammunition Coding System, which has been working with state legislatures to get bills passed to mandate ammunition serialization on a state-by-state basis. There is a neon fox in the henhouse.

It happens that Ammunition Coding System would profit handsomely from such mandatory serialization. Although Russ Ford of Ammunition Coding System claimed vigorously during an interview on NRANews.com (posted on January 25, 2008) that his company was striving for complete transparency in its activities, as of January 19, 2009, there is still no link from the Ammunition Accountability website to the Ammunition Coding System website, and no link back the other way either.

Ammunition serialization amounts to individual markings stamped on the ammunition, both on the projectile and on the shell in which the projectile and propellant is encased. Viewing the 43-minute Russ Ford Ammunition Coding System video on this page at the NRANews.com site is very revealing.

To provide just a little taste of just how bad this ammunition serialization would be for gun owners, consider this excerpt from the online NRA webpage, "Encoded Ammunition"/Bullet Serialization," which was posted on January 15, 2008:

Reasons to Strenuously Oppose This Legislation

  • People would be required to forfeit all personally-owned non-encoded ammunition. After a certain date, it would be illegal to possess non-encoded ammunition. Gun owners possess hundreds of millions of rounds of ammunition for target shooting, hunting and personal protection. Consider that American manufacturers produce 8 billion rounds each year.
  • Reloading (re-using cartridge cases multiple times) would be abolished. There would be no way to correspond serial numbers on cartridge cases, and different sets and quantities of bullets.
  • People would be required to separately register every box of "encoded ammunition." This information would be supplied to the police. Most states do not even require registration of guns. Each box of ammunition would have a unique serial number, thus a separate registration.
  • Private citizens would have to maintain records, if they sold ammunition to anyone, including family members or friends.
  • The cost of ammunition would soar, for police and private citizens alike. The Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturing Institute estimates it would take three weeks to produce ammunition currently produced in a single day. For reason of cost, manufacturers would produce only ultra-expensive encoded ammunition, which police would have to buy, just like everyone else.

Eugenics at work in the Lakota Nation

Russell Means, Lakota activist (my friend Chief Larry who is Cherokee, says "Indian" is ok), has a wonderful website.

We've just gone through a period where the ancestors of slaves elected for President, who is half-Caucasian and doesn't speak of this often. As a country, we do not think of Indian reservations, the Bureau of Indian Affairs, present day poverty, or what we did, as settler/invaders on their lands, to them.

If you read the following article, you will be as horrified as I.

Next election, maybe it's time to elect an American Indian to office. We could learn a lot.

Check out the "Facts" section. You won't believe it. The American government has neglected and ignored the needs of the Indian people. If they (the US government) can reward illegal immigrants with entitlements, then for sure, our native people are entitled to the same.

Financial Meltdown Proves “Reaganonomic" Theory Right

Posted: 24 Jan 2009 10:29 PM CST

A recent article in the Japan update (linked here) reminded me that Ronald Regan was right when he said that “a rising tide raises all boats.” As money is circulated through the economy, it doesn’t just benefit certain people. Everyone gets some benefit out of it. How much benefit is merely a matter of the observer’s perception. Boats close in to shore seem to rise higher in the water than those far out to sea but the net rise and fall is the same for all.

The premise of the trickle-down theory of economics, (sometimes referred to in the form of an epithet as) “Reaganomics” says that when the (so called in the vernacular of the day) “Evil Rich” spend and invest their money, that money is then circulated through the economy. All that money that is either invested or spent pays for a host of goods and services not necessarily seen at the surface level at the time of purchase. I refer you to an interesting article (linked here).

In short, when “Evil Rich” or really anyone with the means for that matter spends their money on things like luxury cars, boats, vacations at posh hotels, expensive dinners, jewelry, clothes etc, the buck doesn’t just stop there. That money not only pays the merchant for their goods or services but circulates through the entire economy. Similarly when they invest money in a company or a financial institution, it is assumed that the money or investment will be used to make even more money.

You see, when Evil Rich people put their money in a bank it’s not the same thing as stuffing it in a mattress or your child’s piggy bank. It’s a transaction of funds done in the form of a loan. It doesn’t matter whether the loan is given in a more direct form through the direct purchase of stocks or bonds or through a bank in the form of your child’s college savings account. Since it is in essence a loan, the money is intended to be paid back with interest. It means the investor is hoping for a profit but none the less putting their money at risk.

Since the beneficiary of the loan has to pay it back with interest, they can’t in turn stuff it into a mattress and hope no one comes knocking on their door looking for it later on down the road. They’re expected to use that money to purchase equipment, raw materials for production or hire workers that they hope will make them more productive and as such, more profitable. If they purchase equipment or hire employees, that money in turn trickles through a wider portion of the economy. Just like the ripples on the water that are formed from throwing a pebble into a pond, the concentric circles expand wider and wider until they finally reach the waters edge.

What we are seeing today is a contraction of the economy that is still in the process of trickling down or rippling through the economy. First the money from investment dries up. That means the “Evil Rich” are not investing or spending their money. Often the result is large expansion projects like the resort hotels that were in construction phase here on Okinawa are often some of the first things we see cease operations. That results in the laying off of construction workers. Furthermore, if credit dries up people can’t buy either the desirable or even necessary high ticket items like cars, big screen high definition televisions, houses etc. The factories can’t keep producing things that no one can buy and they too begin to take cost cutting measures like laying off employees. At this moment in time, the ripples are still in the process of spreading outward.

Typically, history has shown us that down cycles like we are now seeing are regular occurrences that usually last from 12 to 18 months in duration. That is provided they are left to sort themselves out on their own. The danger comes from governments taking drastic measures that can, and more often than not do, exacerbate the situation. For example in the 1930’s many experts agree that the great depression was deeper and longer than it had to be because of trade tariffs like the (Smoot Hawley) act of 1930. Furthermore, a growing number of economists are coming to believe and understand that the big government interventionist policies of the Roosevelt Administration further deepened the misery and even lengthened the recovery process. In case you didn’t know it, the Great Depression lasted for ten years.

Admittedly some of the projects and programs had some long term benefit. The Tennessee Valley Authority and the Hoover Dam project built dams that provided electricity for thousands of the rural south and the west. But many more were nothing more than make work jobs that provided little or no benefit to the public. People were put to work digging holes one day only to fill them back up the next. However, the biggest problem from the era that still affects us to this day was the creation of the entitlement program.

For example, Social Security, the so called “Third Rail” of American politics has become nothing more than a legalized Ponzi scheme and a house of cards. There is no “lock box” as many suppose. A dirty little secret is that at the time it was enacted, life expectancy in the United States was actually less than the age where most people could start to collect benefits. Far more people put money into the program than ever were intended to collect from it. But the demographics of the country changed. One of the benefits of their labors is that America became a mature nation.

Another little known aspect of Social Security is that it was never intended to remain an entirely “government” program. From its inception, there was every intention of “privatizing” at least a portion of it. Unfortunately greedy politicians seeing what at the time seemed to be and endless supply of “free money” to spend on pet projects and buy votes as they pleased ensured that the program remained in government control. Had all of that money been invested privately, the program would almost assuredly pay for itself today, even in spite of the current economic tide. The question with Social Security hasn’t been if the Chickens of this government run “Ponzi” scheme would come home to roost but when?

For years since WWII, the American consumer drove the world economy. The climb in the American standard of living from the 1950’s till 2008 benefited not only the industrial complex of American but, all of Western Europe and the Far East in South Korea and Japan too. Even the so called poor in these countries are rich by world standards. The questions to be asked now is can America do it again and will enacting Roosevelt like socialist economic policies, which is exactly what the Obama Administration is proposing, strangle at worst or at best retard the recovery process?

My bet is that if left to wait on the Obama Administration's plan for an American economic recovery, the current global economic meltdown will last several years and will in fact be a depression vice a short recession. The Obama recovery plan is exactly the wrong medicine at the wrong time, or any time for that matter. For example the money being tasked for driving this government sponsored economic stimulus is not being borrowed, it is merely being printed. The result is a marked devaluation of the Dollar which is already being felt. In the last year the Dollar has fallen over 25% against the Yen.

It is the consumer and the investor that drive the economy, not the government. If America cannot put its financial house in order and the recovery from this contraction is instead driven by emerging markets in India, China and perhaps even Russia, as some suppose; when combined with the wholesale printing of an increasingly worthless currency we can expect to see the long term funk in the American economy to continue indefinitely! America may in fact become a second rate power much like Western Europe did following the war. It may take decades for us to return to the way it was.

One thing we can all do to lessen or prevent a severe depression is to buy products vice hoarding our money. Consider a purchase of a genuine Goya Republic product to help keep the economy going. Your purchase doesn't just benefit me. It ripples through the entire economy. It helps keep people employed in a host of different trades and occupations.

In truth it matters not whether you buy from me or someone else, the important thing is to keep the free market going and people employed. That is the real way out of our economic mess, not government debt heaped on the next generation merely to keep a political ideology in power indefinitely. Buy now, do it for your children's sake. Don't give up the ship just because it's been beached. The tide will eventually turn. How soon depends on us, not Mr. Obama!

Peanut butter in pet foods - Danger

peaEffective Immediately: Please Discontinue Use of Peanut Butter Products, Pet Parents!

Peanut ButterIn light of last week’s FDA recall, which traced sources of Salmonella contamination to a plant owned by Peanut Corporation of America, the ASPCA is advising pet parents to temporarily discontinue the use of peanut butter products.

A popular treat for dogs, peanut butter is commonly stuffed into chewable activity toys. While healthy adult companion dogs are relatively resistant to Salmonella bacteria, pets with health issues, young puppies and older pooches with compromised immune systems may be at greater risk. “Pet parents should wash their hands after handling any potentially contaminated food and immediately consult with a veterinarian if any symptoms are noticed in their pets,” says the ASPCA’s Dr. Steven Hansen, Senior Vice President, Animal Health Services. Signs to watch out for in dogs include vomiting, diarrhea, fever, lethargy and drooling or panting. Cats may develop a high fever with vague, non-specific clinical signs.

In addition, pet parents handling a contaminated peanut butter product may also develop food poisoning. “Salmonella can be passed between humans and pets,” says Dr. Louise Murray, ASPCA Director of Medicine. “Adult cats are highly resistant, and most dogs infected with the bacterium appear normal, but may pass Salmonella in their feces, which can infect people or other pets. Therefore it’s essential that pet parents take steps to protect both themselves and their animal companions from infection."

For a complete list of recalled products, please visit the FDA online. Do check often, as the list is regularly udpated. If you suspect that your pet may have ingested or has become sick after ingesting a recalled product, please contact your local veterinarian or the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center at (888) 426-4435.

White construction workers (mostly males) will be shut out of the stimulus to come.

This is racist. This is directly from Robert Reich's blog.

I make NO apologies for saying this. Remember Reich from the Clinton days?

The Stimulus: How to Create Jobs Without Them All Going to Skilled Professionals and White Male Construction Workers

The stimulus plan will create jobs repairing and upgrading the nation's roads, bridges, ports, levees, water and sewage system, public-transit systems, electricity grid, and schools. And it will kick-start alternative, non-fossil based sources of energy (wind, solar, geothermal, and so on); new health-care information systems; and universal broadband Internet access.

It's a two-fer: lots of new jobs, and investments in the nation's future productivity.

But if there aren't enough skilled professionals to do the jobs involving new technologies, the stimulus will just increase the wages of the professionals who already have the right skills rather than generate many new jobs in these fields. And if construction jobs go mainly to white males who already dominate the construction trades, many people who need jobs the most -- women, minorities, and the poor and long-term unemployed -- will be shut out.

What to do? There's no easy solution to either dilemma. But there's no reason to think about "green jobs" as simply high-tech. Many low-income and low-skilled workers -- women as well as men -- could be put directly to work providing homes and businesses with more efficient and renewable heating, lighting, cooling, and refrigeration systems; installing solar panels and efficient photovoltaic systems; rehabilitating and renovating old properties, and improving recycling systems. "Green Jobs Corps" teams could be trained to evaluate and advise homeowners and businesses on these and other means of conserving energy.

People can be trained relatively quickly for these sorts of jobs, as well as many infrastructure j0bs generated by the stimulus -- installing new pipes for water and sewage systems, repairing and upgrading equipment, basic construction -- but contractors have to be nudged both to provide the training and to do the hiring.

I'd suggest that all contracts entered into with stimulus funds require contractors to provide at least 20 percent of jobs to the long-term unemployed and to people withincomes at or below 200 percent of the federal poverty level. And at least 2 percent of project funds should be allocated to such training. In addition, advantage should be taken of buildings trades apprenticeships -- wich must be fully available to women and minorities.

Quote of the Day - Aristotle

Youth is easily deceived because it is quick to hope.
Aristotle

So, does that explain making Obama the bi-racial Messiah?

Michael Savage gave an interesting little talk on Aristotle and tyrants last night on his radio show. It should be able to be heard on www.michaelsavage.com today. He said he studied Aristotle in college and that Aristotle said a tyrant would always appear to be the "good guy" - would never soil his hands by doing dirty deeds. Instead, he would let his underlings (in this case, our Congress and his cabinet) do it and claim not to be able to do anything about it.

In the future, remember that the sages of history seemed to think more clearly than we can.

Second Amendment explanation from Misc. Survivalism

To:
"misc_survivalism_moderated"

The first draft of the Second Amendment said, "The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed, a Well regulated (which meant at the time WELL ARMED, NOT WELL CONTROLLED) militia being necessary to the security of a free state. It was changed to make it sound better, not restrict the rights of the people. I always tell people that there are some linguistic differences between the 18th and 20th centuries that when they are taken into consideration makes the intent of the founder very clear. Here is what I mean. At the time of the writing of the Constitution, the phrase "well regulated" meant well armed with the most modern of weapons. The British considered the rifled muskets of the Colonial Army as unfair implements. The Colonists loved them for their long range accuracy in comparison to the smooth bore Brown Bess of the British Army. And since almost all members of the colonial army had to provide their own weapon, the founding fathers wanted them to have the most advanced weapon possible. In the terminology of the time, the "Militia" was considered to be all adult males of sound mind and character (I.e. no felons). And I would hazard a guess that the idea of a "Free State" didn't mean a political body as much as a state of freedom. Remember, they had just fought a bloody 8 yr long war who's outcome was in doubt until the very end against a tyrannical despot. Under that context, an interpretation of the second amendment of " A well armed citizenry, being necessary to the security of the state of freedom, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed." is probably spot on to the original intent of the founding fathers. That leaves little to the imagination for some attornies to try and twist. This country went for almost 120 years without more than a handful of gun laws. We now have over 10,000 and crime had risen dramatically (and still remains high in non shall issue states) until the right to carry a concealed weapon was reaffirmed in the 38 states that now have "Shall Issue" legislation on the books. Crime has consistently dropped wherever Shall issue and Castle doctrine laws have passed.

From Misc_Survivalism - on Swiss gun control. Excellent little post.

"misc_survivalism_moderated"
I prefer to tell people I will happily go to a European form of gun control as soon as they are willing to accept the Swiss model which has historically produced crime rates substantially lower than any other major country on the continent. Seeing as the Swiss require military service and issue the individual a selective fire assault rifle to maintain in their home from the time they leave the service at 22 until they reach their mid 40s AND requires that they maintain proficiency with it at the government run ranges using government subsidized ammunition, I could live with that plan. They have VERY few crimes in Switzerland as every household if armed and government sanctioned shooting competitions beginning with airguns at age 5 insures that they are all excellent shots as well. The Germans considered invading Switzerland, but a German General familiar with the Swiss militia decided that it would be far too costly to try to do so. BTW the Swiss militia has been in existence for centuries and has protected Swiss neutrality in every major European conflict.

A great blog called INVESTIGATING OBAMA

http://investigatingobama.blogspot.com/2009/01/inauguration-day-notes.html

I spent the day yesterday in a cloud of mourning for my country and my Constitution. I witnessed a few minutes of the "celebration", and realized this would be a hip hop presidency. Had I started drinking from the time I awoke to the time I went to bed, I would be in the hospital with near fatal alcohol poisoning. I didn't watch it on tv because I didn't want to see the entranced celebrities gushing praise to the king that had just been coronated, nor did I want to see the crazed, mindless idiots who stood in the cold, some of them who could hardly scrape up the money to get there by bus.

It was obscene. $150 million to $180 million when the country is reeling in economic despair, recalls the days of the French revolution. "Let them eat cake." Cake and promises that can't and won't be delivered.

Then I heard this morning, on the Burnie Thompson, long audio of a video clip on "I Pledge". These people, celebrities included, are pledging to Obama, NOT to our country. Watch the brownshirts (Obama's "greenshirts" come to your door to confiscate your firearms...armed with heavy weapons someday - first to

I spent the day instead, trying to rescue dogs. A worthier cause.

A quick thought on the Coronation… er uh.. Inauguration…

There are no better words written to help ground some of the high flying words being spouted on CNN and other media outlets over our next President Barack Obama than Gene Healy’s “The Cult of the Presidency: America’s Dangerous Devotion to Executive Power“.

I’m glad I read this book earlier this year. How glorious it would be to be handing it out to all of the Obama revelers today in DC. Since there are 2 million of them though this is an impossible task.

Instead, why not buy it for your favorite Obama dreamer today.

An email I came across re Ramos and Campeon

This came from a list - I chose not to include the writer's email. It is just something for you to think about.

OK, I get to be the contrarian, sort of. I spent a lot of time in Law Enforcement. I was a Special Agent in the old USINS so I did a lot of what Compean and Ramos did work wise only I didn't wear a uniform and I worked in town.

The Federal government's policey on the use of deadly force is clear. Deadly force may only be used to protect the life of ones self, a fellow officer or an innocent third party...period. Compean and Ramos violated that policy.

These two shot a man who was running away from them. They then tried to cover up the incident. The claim the shootee had a gun and brandished it at them. If they made a report to that effect probably the most they would have had to endure was a repremand, and I bet they wouldn't have gotten that. The didn't do that and instead destroyed evidence and lied to their superiors. Concealing evidence is considered guilty knowledge. That's the way it is folks.

They got caught and Johnny Sutton, with the consent of the Justice Department and probably the president decided to make an example of them.

I don't believe for a minute that this was collusion between the Bush administration and Johnny Sutton. I believe it was collusion between the Bush administration and the Mexican government.

These two should have lost their jobs for what they did and nothing more. The U.S. Attorney should have declined prosecution in this case in favor of dismissal by the Border Patrol of the two agents.

Bush should have commutted the sentences of these two men long ago and that he didn't is a travesty.

That dosen't make Ramos and Compean "Heros." They aren't that by a long shot.

Arms confiscation - JPFO It'll NEVER HAPPEN HERE!

"It'll Never Happen Here"

By Kirby Ferris

Gun owners now face what appears to be the seeming inevitability of nationwide gun registration and ammunition registration. Many longtime pro-gun advocates, even in their most fitful dreams, had not foreseen the immensely somber showdown we are confronting.

One writer (Bob Unruh in World Net Daily) appropriately used the phrase “perfect storm” to describe what American gun owners face at this moment in history. All the elemental societal and political forces seem to have conjoined to form an immense “low pressure” zone of impending anti-gun legislation. The goal: Confiscation.

Is “confiscation” too harsh a word? Ladies and gentlemen, every government on Earth that has orchestrated a genocide first registered, and then confiscated, personal firearms. See: JPFO Genocide Chart .

Ironically, no one element of this “perfect storm of gun control” is actually new. We’ve had plenty of warning. It’s just that this time all the conditions truly are perfect. Like Katrina headed for New Orleans.

1. We’ve heard of ammunition registration schemes for years. Using the Georgia State Legislature as a probing device, the victim disarmament crowd is going to bar code your bullets, and, if they can pass the whole enchilada, make you “dispose of” your present ammunition by January of 2012. Of course, that means you will have to sign for every box of ammunition you buy from now on. My opinion? The NRA will squawk loudly … and then compromise. The NRA will consider it a victory that they get the “dispose of” clause dropped. Desired goal: Confiscation.

2. Let’s all watch as thousands of homecoming veterans become ineligible for gun ownership. This law is a done deal. The NRA backed it and Bush signed it. Some brave soldier, fighting house to house in Fallujah, might decide to seek some counseling for the horror he’s seen. Sure he’s got issues. War is hell. Ask any WWII, Korean, or Vietnam combat veteran. No one can remain psychically unscarred. But now this combat veteran, this soldier who offers his life to protect your freedom, will be denied the most fundamental human right, the right to self defense. Desired goal: Confiscation.

3. Universal handgun registration. And this one is wafting up from Barack Hussein Obama’s home State of Illinois. Again, this is a probe: Get a law passed on a State level and then let it “trickle up” to Congress and a President who will be the most anti gun in our history. Desired goal: Confiscation.

4. Obama’s pick for Attorney General, and pending legislation to give that officeholder complete personal discretion to ban firearms that were originally designed for military or law enforcement use. That means pump shotguns (used in WWI), Grampa’s old Garrand that he gave you (used in WWII), and any semi auto rifle or pistol that has military or police background use. Oh yeah, toss in your .308 deer rifle. It’s a “sniper rifle”. Desired goal: Confiscation.

Additionally Obama is going to probably get two chances at new Supreme Court justices. And, because the NRA long ago retreated into a reactive stance when it actually had the power to utterly defeat prior legislation, our so-called gun rights advocates will once again fall prey to typical “dialectic” maneuverings by the victim disarmament crowd. An insane bill is presented (thesis), reaching far beyond what our opponents actually want (at the moment), the NRA screams and takes a flaccid stand (antithesis) … and then compromises, and we get saddled with another sellout of our rights (synthesis).

What can be done? Petition the politicians who already ignore you? Petition the NRA Board of Directors, when it is blatantly obvious that the NRA was infiltrated by Bill of Rights saboteurs decades ago? No, all your letters and faxes and emails and phone calls won’t work with the two- faced connivers who are running things, both in D.C. and deep within the NRA. Forget the traitors and their dupes. Don’t waste your breath.

It’s time to take it to the streets. No, I’m not talking about open shooting … yet. I’m talking about educating your friends and neighbors. If every ardent gun owner can bring just one other person over to our somber understanding of freedom and private firearms, this battle … no, this war … will be won. You need a “secret weapon” that will quietly penetrate the awareness of your friends and neighbors. JPFO’s DVD “2A Today for the U.S.A.” is just that “secret weapon”. This documentary film is quietly persuasive. What it presents is inarguable. (“2A Today for the U.S.A.” is free online from www.jpfo.org.)

What if every ardent gun owner brought two people over to our side? We can bury the moral perversity of victim disarmament for decades.

There’s a storm a comin’. Tell your neighbors. Yes, the “perfect storm” of “gun control” approaches. Batten down the hatches.

From the London Daily Mail 1/6/2009 on electing Obama

Change is here !!!!!!!!!
*********************
John T. Reed
London Daily Mail editorial 1/6/2009
Obama's Victory--A British view
A victory for the hysterical Oprah Winfrey, the mad racist preacher Jeremiah Wright, the US mainstream media who abandoned any sense of objectivity long ago, Europeans who despise America largely because they depend on her, comics who claim to be dangerous and fearless but would not dare attack genuinely powerful special interest groups. A victory for Obama-worshippers everywhere. A victory for the cult of the cult. A man who has done little with his life but has written about his achievements as if he had found the cure for cancer in between winning a marathon and building a nuclear reactor with his teeth. Victory for style over substance, hyperbole over history, rabble-raising over reality.
A victory for Hollywood , the most dysfunctional community in the world. Victory for Streisand, Spielberg, Soros, Moore, and Sarandon. Victory for those who prefer welfare to will and interference to independence. For those who settle for group think and herd mentality rather than those who fight for individual initiative and the right to be out of step with meager political fashion.
Victory for a man who is no friend of freedom. He and his people have already stated that media has to be controlled so as to be balanced, without realizing the extraordinary irony within that statement. Like most liberal zealots, the Obama worshippers constantly speak of Fox and Limbaugh, when the vast bulk of television stations and newspapers are drastically liberal and anti-conservative. Senior Democrat Chuck Schumer said that just as pornography should be censored, so should talk radio. In other words, one of the few free and open means of popular expression may well be cornered and beaten by bullies who even in triumph cannot tolerate any criticism and opposition. A victory for those who believe the state is better qualified to raise children than the family, for those who prefer teachers' unions to teaching and for those who are naively convinced that if the West is sufficiently weak towards its enemies, war and terror will dissolve as quickly as the tears on the face of a leftist celebrity. A victory for social democracy even after most of Europe has come to the painful conclusion that social democracy leads to mediocrity, failure, unemployment, inflation, higher taxes and economic stagnation. A victory for intrusive lawyers, banal sentimentalists, social extremists and urban snobs.
Congratulations America !

Aren't we the lucky so and so's!
