An email from DHS was sent to our Sheriff Frank McKeithen announcing, not asking permission, for DHS VIPER teams to drill at our Greyhound station and our trolley system, which is public transportation on a very small scale, both of them in Panama City, FL.
This morning, Derrell Day read the response of our Sheriff which said mildly and politely, that we do not need such drills, and that our law enforcement agencies are able to handle anything that comes (or has come) up.
Now I don't know if the the DHS VIPERS will ignore his request to stop wasting such unnecessary expense and resources...our trolley serves the elderly, the disabled, the poor. The Greyhound station is very small, and who uses it? The elderly, the disabled, the poor, mostly.
The DHS has shown its face as a predator. Remember the Social Security office raid last year I think downstate Florida?
Because the Sheriff can refuse DHS to come into our county, I hope all of you here and in surrounding counties will support him in his effort to keep them out. Maybe he should deputize all of us so we can back him up.
We don't need no stinkin' badges...and we don't need the DHS in our county!
Stay strong, Frank!
