NEIL BOORTZ ON THE CYPRUS CASH GRAB - COMING TO AMERICA?
The Cyprus Cash Grab - Coming to America?
You were shocked - SHOCKED, you say - at the
very idea that the government of Cyprus would order banks to seize 10%
of every bank account and hand the money over the government? Well …
excuse me for being rude, but maybe if you had been spending a better
part of the last 20 years paying attention to the atrocities that happen
with nauseating regularity in Washington, instead of going into an
annual swoon over March Madness and/or the Oscars, or blindly tuning in
to Entertainment Tonight every evening rather than an actual newscast,
you might have seen this money grab coming. I’m no rocket surgeon, and I
saw it coming (in America, not Cyprus) and I been warning the listeners
to my talk show from 1993 right up until my retirement two months ago.
It’s simple. Taxing your income is simply not enough. The left is
coming after your wealth. They’ll be satisfied with some of your
retirement funds … for now.
If you haven’t been paying attention to the Cyprus story, here’s
your short version: Cyprus is in financial trouble. The Cypriot
government is led by communists. Trade unions are fighting austerity
programs needed to erase huge deficits. Sound familiar? That is similar
to the situation in the United States in more ways that you might
imagine. So Cyprus did what every other troubled Eurozone country is
doing: went to the Eurozone finance commissioners for a bailout. The
commissioners said fine, but as a condition of the bailout Cyprus must
levy a 10% tax against the outstanding balance in all depository
accounts in Cyprus banks. Call it a tax. Or call it stealing. Either
way, every Cypriot depositor loses 10% of their account. The government
screws up, the people pay. Again, it sounds so very familiar.
Oddly enough, the people of Cyprus weren’t particularly elated over
this move, nor were investors and citizens throughout the Eurozone.
Imagine that! Cypriots immediately grabbed their ATM cards and started
to withdraw as much money as they could from their accounts. Cash in
their hands wouldn’t be hit for 10%. It was clear there would be a run
on the banks as soon as they reopened. Now the plan to simply seize
individual wealth is being delayed, though not abandoned.
Could it happen here? Well certainly it could. Congress could pass
and the President could sign legislation calling for the seizure of 10%
of every checking and savings account in every bank in America. This
might finally be enough to cause a resurrection, but they could do it.
So in America the wealth seizure has to be just a bit more selective and
subtle. And that brings us to the warning I’ve been voicing for 20
years.
Go back to 1993. Bill Clinton has just been sworn in. The Democrats
are running the show. They’ve passed a nice little tax increase –
retroactive, mind you – and they feel encouraged. Along comes a lady by
the name of Alicia Munnell. She’s been appointed by Clinton to be an Assistant Treasury Secretary for Economic Development.
Munnell proposes a plan to come up with some cash to shore up Social
Security. Not everyone, it seems, is “fortunate” enough to have a nice
little IRA or 401k retirement account. Why this just isn’t fair!
Everyone should have a comfortable retirement, not just the people who
actually planned and worked for one! So Munnell proposed to Clinton an
idea! Let’s just go out there and seize 15% of the outstanding balance of every IRA and 401k. Seize that money and pump it into the Social
Security system. As it turns out, Munnell and Clinton never really had the chance to put their plan into action since the very next year the Republicans took control of the House and the Senate in the voter revolution of 1994.
Munnell hasn’t gone away
though. She now hatches her wealth seizure and redistribution schemes as
the Director of the Center for Retirement Research at Boston College.
Never fear .. the idea is
alive. House and Senate Democrats are even now toying with various plots
to seize retirement and pension plans and pour them into some grand new
government operated and controlled pension system .. a system that
would be “fair” to everyone. This is just a perfect scenario for Obamian
class warfare. “Those rich people are enjoying their fat-cat
retirements with the money that should have been used to pay workers a
living wage. They steal a comfortable retirement from the middle class
and laugh at them from their yachts and private jets.” Yeah … that
works. And as you should know, the government would certainly do a
better job providing for American’s retirements than could free people
interacting in a system of economic liberty.
Cyprus? I hope you enjoy that spectacle as it unfolds. Shake your heads and tsk tsk all you like. Just remember … the Democrat party is watching this episode and celebrating. You’re next.

During the Great Depression criminals like
Bonnie and Clyde, Willie Sutton, Pretty Boy Floyd, John Dillinger and
Baby Face Nelson robbed banks. They attained some degree of folk hero
status by sticking it to banks that some felt were responsible for the
Depression era misery.
With liberal ideas firmly in the saddle, civilizing us,
so to speak, we have come a long way from those dreary days. No longer
would we applaud such criminals.
Instead, today, we send them to Congress, or parliament, or the legislature, where governments try to achieve folk hero status by robbing banks and depositors alike.
In the 1930s the robbers justified their acts by saying no real people were hurt, just the banks and the insurance plan that covered the depositors ("real people", by the way).
Governments today have no need of that kind of logic. They get to hurt whomever they wish because, well… they’re the government.
Stick ‘em, up.
May these governments all meet the same fate of the bank robbers of the 1930s.
The current heist under way, disguised as a public service measure, proposes to “tax”- steal would be a better word- cash deposits in banks in order to raise about $6 billion euros to bailout...the government (and ..., oh, by the way, the banks, where these cash deposits are being held!) in Cyprus.
It’s kind of a reverse TARP, which penalizes people who have saved in
proportion to how responsible they have been. The money is needed in
order to save the governments of Cyprus and the European Union.
And the more you have saved, the worse off you’ll be.
As of now, no deposits, no matter how small, will be free from
confiscation if the measure passes; no one will be Too-Small-to-Tax.
And make no mistake about it: The bank “tax” that the European Union is imposing on Cyprus isn’t a tax at all. It’s seizure of property without due process in order for politicians to save a system for which someone should go to jail.
This ladies and gentlemen is what Hope and Change! gets you eventually.
Just at a time when the European political and banking system is unraveling, Obama is proposing that we closely model Europe.
Tax the rich, certainly. But make sure you tax everyone else too.
“On Sunday, a source close to the consultations,” reports Reuters,
say that “authorities were hoping to cut the tax to 3.0 percent from
6.7 percent for deposits under 100,000 euros. The rate for deposits
above that would then be jacked up to 12.5 percent from 9.9 percent.”
But all is well says the EU.
It’s just a tiny theft in comparison. No big deal.
“Brussels has emphasized that the measure is a one-off for a country that accounts for just 0.2 percent of European output,” Reuters continues.
Hurray for the 0.2 Percent! We can make THEM pay.
With Spain, Italy, Portugal, Ireland and other financial systems teetering, however, confidence in the European banking system- really the world banking system- could be and should be shaken to the core.
If this goes through it will give food for thought to other governments that seem to be ambivalent about the 0.2 Percent.
And yes, that’s Obama that I’m looking at.
Even New York Times Columnist Paul Krugman is saying that there is no better way to shake confidence in the banking system.
“It's as if the Europeans are holding up a neon sign, written in Greek and Italian, saying 'Time to stage a run on your banks!'" Krugman wrote in his column at the Times.
When they write a history of the times we live in, I’m guessing the working title will be: The Age of the Bad Ideas. Politicians, policy-makers and the public have struggled to squarely address the fact that no matter how hard you try, you can not make 2+2= $4 trillion.
And someone has to pay the difference.
In Cyprus, they’ve come up with a great idea of who that “someone” is.
“Investors were responding to the unprecedented decision by eurozone leaders,” writes Euronews.com “to partly fund a bank bailout for Cyprus with money from savers’ accounts.
Account holders in Cyprus have been appalled and many tried
throughout the weekend to withdraw as much money as possible from their
banks. There are fears that similar panic could spread to other eurozone countries.”
Maybe not just the Eurozone either.
With tussles over the debt, social spending, deficits and taxes
turning into a revolutionary struggle over what government should and
should not do, it’s just a matter of time before some Democrat begins to advocate in earnest a Cypriot solution to our spending troubles.
Do you really think Obama won’t consider it?
Why bank deposits?
Because the Democrats say we need more money.
And in the words of Depression-era bank robber Willie Sutton: “That’s where the money is.”

Debt Free America Act - which contained a provision to impose a tax on all
financial transactions, including simple deposits into and withdrawals
out of individual private bank accounts. The concept is one that has
been pushed by leftist radicals in the Obama Administration for
decades.

Transgenic clones, created by deleting-and-replacing DNA sequences to create a cross-species hybrid (xenotransplantation) that is then grown in a host egg, are becoming a pet-project of corporate science that offers 'Pharming's' promise of replacement organs for ailing humans, industrial and pharmaceutical applications of artificial-protein production, and the hope of successful outlets for artificial fertilization in an age of increasing sterility and infertility. However, it is these man-made creations that pose the greatest risks-- including contamination, proven links to sterility in offspring and risks of cancer. Many clones, including the world's famous first-cloned sheep, Dolly, have had conspicuously short lives and bad health. Arthritis, breathing problems and more have plagued their existence, while hundreds of embryos fail in cultivation for each successful clone. Still others die in the womb after only days, yet these entities are trusted to fulfill humanity's betterment.
In particular, mixing the human genome with that of various 'useful' animals crosses the extremely risky bridge formerly separating many beast-borne diseases from those that typically affect humans, or plant species for that matter. The contagion of mixing unrelated species like mammals and jellyfish genes gives the opportunity for unforeseen consequences and uncontrollable mutations. Somebody's going to whoop his bony ass. A friend grew up here in the south and her Blackfoot grandmother lived with the family. She was very small and the boys grew up very tall. But she was the matriarch, and when they did something wrong, THEY got to choose the switch, cut it off the tree and hand it to her. If it wasn't satisfactory, meaning it wasn't going to hurt enough, they had to go out and repeat the process until it was just right. Down came the pants. And then Grandma meted out her duty.
Just a little story to be accepted on its face. That boy needed a whoopin' the day he was born!
He ain't "right".

CHINESE VILLAGERS PROTEST GOVERNMENT ABUSE - IT'S GETTING BIGGER
For three months, Wukan residents have been staging occasional
large-scale protests against a longstanding series of abuses
committed by local Party officials.
The villagers' biggest grievance was corrupt officials profiting
from illegally selling the villagers' land.
The current intensified protest, including the EXPELLING OF ALL
POLICE AND OFFICIALS, came after the death of Xue Jinbo. He was in
Communist Party custody at the time and Xue's family say there was
evidence of torture on his body, including broken thumbs and
bruises.
