RICK SANTORUM AND TRUTH IN HIS CAMPAIGN - NOT SO MUCH. A LITTLE LATE ON SUPER TUESDAY, HOWEVER. TELL YOUR CATHOLIC FRIENDS OR BETTER YET EMAIL THIS.

POSITION: Rick Santorum voted for the Patriot Act and has “no problem with it”, since there were no “widespread abuses” of it. (Coeur d’Alene, Feb 14, 2012)
ANALYSIS: The first official action of a Senator is to take the oath of office to “support and defend the Constitution of the United States”. The Patriot Act violates portions of the First, Fourth, and Sixth Amendments to the Constitution:

If you believe an oath is a solemn promise, should we be we willing to reelect an oath breaker to any public office?
The Southern Poverty Law Center is a self proclaimed watch dog for “hate groups”. They also hold training sessions with law enforcement agencies all over the country to help them identify potential terrorist groups. If you are a Traditional Catholic, you are on their watch list. Are you an unknowing target of the Patriot Act?

POSITION: Rick Santorum stated that the cause of the housing bubble collapse was because “$4 a gallon gas” caused people to miss their mortgage payments. (Coeur d’Alene, Feb 14, 2012).
He made this same claim to the voters of Michigan:
http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-503544_162-57386298-503544/santorum-high-gas-prices-caused-recession/
ANALYSIS: Federal agencies strong-armed banks to make unsound loans at low interest rates (sub prime) to individuals who could not qualify for conventional loans. This increased the bidding for housing and resulted in artificially high prices. When the predictable defaults started, the housing prices collapsed to more realistic market levels.

If a candidate cannot make a correct assessment of the causes of a problem this immense, perhaps he cannot take corrective or preventive action on less critical issues.
POSITION: Rick Santorum stated that it is unfair for us to borrow money from China to pay for Social Security retirement benefits. (Coeur d’Alene, Feb 14, 2012).
ANALYSIS: Current recipients of SS retirement benefits have contributed for up to 48 years into the fund (age 18 to 66). Several studies suggest that the benefits would be larger if the “contributions” had been invested in private annuities or other investment vehicles:
http://www.cato.org/pubs/ssps/ssp2.html
The SS Administration deposits the contributions into a Trust Fund. Congress then borrowed these funds to finance deficit spending of the Federal government by purchasing Federal Bonds, which are nothing more than IOU’s. The only way to pay retirement benefits is for the Treasury to redeem the bonds - either by borrowing more money or to raise taxes. Then we blame the retirees for this borrowing!
For Santorum to imply that it is unfair for us to pay what is due in justice to these workers is simple class warfare - a weapon usually wielded by the Democrats.
POSITION: Rick Santorum has voted five times to raise the debt ceiling.
http://www.dailytarheel.com/index.php/article/2012/02/romney_criticizes_santorum_for_raising_the_debt_ceiling
ANALYSIS: Fiscal conservatives do not vote for increases in the Federal debt, which can only be paid by increasing taxes. Instead, they find ways to shrink the burden of government.
POSITION: Rick Santorum claims to be a political conservative.
ANALYSIS: Most politicians will cater to their audiences by telling them what they want to hear. What is the best way to predict how a politician will act in the future? Look at his voting record – something he can’t talk his way out of. Actions speak louder than words.
Conservative Index Rating
Time Period Santorum Paul
2002 62% 91%
2003 45% 100%
2004 60% 100%
The Index rates Congressmen on up to 40 different issues per Congressional Session, and rates them on Constitutional, conservative, and free market grounds. You can see a description of each bill that was voted on, so you can decide if your candidate voted the way you would want them to vote.
POSITION: Rick Santorum is in favor of auditing the Federal Reserve, but not in favor of abolishing it.
ANALYSIS: The purchasing power of the dollar has diminished by 98% since the Federal Reserve was instituted in 1913. It is a private bank controlled by international interests. The erosion of the dollar’s value occurs at a faster rate than wages increase, so the poor, the middle class, and retirees are becoming impoverished.
The fifth plank of the Communist Manifesto (published in 1848), states, “Centralization of credit in the hands of the state, by means of a national bank with State capital and an exclusive monopoly.” The Fed is exactly that monopoly.
Ron Paul is the only candidate who understands this and who wants to return the country to a sound monetary system.
It is no surprise that the media has distorted Dr. Paul’s position on most issues. They will search for the one statement in a presentation that will make him appear foolish. Dr. Paul was in Spokane last Friday, and I challenge you to listen to his unedited address and make up your own mind.
