FOR MY NY FRIENDS - NY STREET GAMES TRAILER

And if you're wondering how important a "Spaldeen" (Spalding) rubber ball was, it was everything. The girls played girl games, not stickball. And on Staten Island, where I grew up, the boys played in the street, too. And the parents sat outside on the steps or stoops and watched.

In the spring I would ask my mother for a new Spaldeen (they smelled heavenly right out of the store), and a Duncan yo-yo. I never got proficient with a yo-yo. But I loved them.

I hope this goes on the History channel soon. I'd love to see it.
