Boehner on Obamacare - Worst of Both Worlds

Boehner: Gov't Takeover of Health Care "The Worst of Both Worlds" for Doctors, Patients

WASHINGTON, DC – House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) issued the following statement after the President made remarks on health care at the White House accompanied by doctors:

“Medical societies and thousands of doctors from throughout the nation have spoken out against Washington Democrats’ costly government takeover of health care because it would cripple their ability to care properly for patients.

“Members of the medical community – who deal with red tape day in and day out – rightly recognize that the Democrats’ government takeover would weaken the doctor-patient relationship that is so critical to making the right health care decisions. Doctors are also justifiably concerned about placing additional burdens on working families and small businesses.

“What’s more, Democrats’ proposals fail to include real junk lawsuit reform that would put an end to the costly practice of defensive medicine and protect our doctors from a feeding frenzy of trial lawyers – a key priority for health professionals.

“By undermining what works in our current system and failing to fix what’s broken, Democrats’ costly government takeover of health care is the worst of both worlds. That’s why Republicans have proposed better solutions to lower costs and expand coverage while ensuring our medical community can continue to provide patients with high-quality care.”

NOTE: Seven state medical societies, three specialty medical associations, and two former Presidents of the American Medical Association representing 43,000 doctors have written a letter to House Energy & Commerce Committee Chairman Waxman stating that they are adamantly opposed to Democrats’ costly government takeover of health care. The American College of Surgeons has expressed concerns with both Democrats’ proposals and the rhetoric being employed to garner support for them. And in a nationally televised GOP address last month, Dr. Charles Boustany (R-LA), a heart surgeon who represents Louisiana’s 7th District in Congress, discussed the better solutions Republicans are offering.
