The Good News is that Bear Creek Feline Center is gaining in terms of
resident feline population. We have just added a breeding pair of
oncifelis geoffroyi. Our cadre of volunteers remains dedicated. We
continue to feed the best food, we clean our cages immaculately and we
conduct "spot on" educational tours.
So, what's the purpose of this communique? We are simply logging too
little time within our cages to enrich and bond with our cats. Our
friend Dr Antle recommends 2 hours a day per cat. How do you fit on this
scale? Too many of our cats are totally neglected as they sit, watching
4 walls. I expect that they wonder why their people aren't stopping by
with a kind voice to say hello and to give them a friendly pat on the
head.
Many feline husbandry professionals say that a full grown, adult wild
feline kept in captivity is like a perpetual 2 year old child. Keeping
that in mind, we need your help: (1) Consider making a commitment to come
out and spend more cage time with "our babies" (2) Recruit others who
share our interests in conservation, education and preservation. (3)
Remember that we have an active feline adoption program. (4) Please
spread the word about Bear Creek's intern program for those who seek to
become licensed here in Florida.
Thanks to all for what you do for the cats!
