Subject: Thank Obama for mercury emission reduction in power plants? Are you kidding?
Here's a little letter I dashed off today to the Sierra Club in response to a newsletter.
I have been interested, and occasionally a member of the Sierra Club for decades.
However, how can you praise Obama for supposedly reducing the mercury from power plants (our incinerator fills feeder creeks with chemical soup and the fish in our lakes and streams are limited because of the mercury contained in them) when we have been mandated - let's use the word, FORCED here - to use mercury filled lightbulbs, for which hazmat containers are placed in some of the stores in which you purchase them, are cautioned NOT to break them in the home and handling them when they are broken is hazardous to your health.
In addition, they ARE going to landfills, and don't be stupid about that. You're head is up your corporate ass. They do NOT last as long as they are supposed to and unless you have garbage police inspecting every single trash can in the country, YOU and I LOSE. We lose American jobs to China, and we risk taking into our bodies, a toxic chemical. The green agenda is full of holes. It is a farce on a large scale. There was nothing wrong with incandescent lighting.
To be forced to use a toxic Chinese product in my country is against my Constitutional rights and against the very thing you "say" you fight against. So on this issue, you at the Sierra Club are hypocrites.
I am sending copies of this letter to others - individuals, media and groups - across the country.
What happens to me will happen to you. On this very subject today referring to DEP, I said I'd like to dress in a hazmat suit with oxygen, get a truckload of these lightbulbs and corral all the DEP employees from the top, down, and smash the bulbs into the floor while they were standing there, unprotected.
The madness has to stop.
We know now that global warming is a hoax. We know that we have a sustainable energy supply that we can develop that will last for more than 200 years. We can use our natural resources until real progress is made in hydrogen cell power. We know that wind farms are dangerous to birds - you are charged to protect them. We know that ethanol is dangerous to our internal combustion engines, when all we have available are unaffordable vehicles to buy. Where do the batteries in hybrid or electric cars go when they die? How can "we" afford the new ones. We know that genetically modified crops, livestock, and fish are dangerous to our health. We know the things you campaign for are mostly hot air because if you were interested enough, you'd be questioning what the US government is putting in vaccines and stopping the spraying of chemtrails.
You like mercury in your food, in your fish, in your home, in your body? Keep pushing these lightbulbs.

For 5 minutes, Congress gave us a reprieve from the mandate (that we buy these dangerous suckers - (we're the suckers, actually). Tomorrow incandescent lightbulbs are illegal (CAN YOU IMAGINE THIS? THESE NEW BULBS ARE FULL OF MERCURY AND WHERE DO THEY GO ULTIMATELY? TO A LANDFILL!)
There's an alternative.
Frankly, I'd rather use kerosene lamps or candles.
But I will buy LED lights - and try to find American made ones.

CF LIGHTBULBS A SERIOUS HEALTH HAZARD TO WOMEN, CHILDREN, DUE TO MERCURY CONTENT

Been saying this repeatedly. What about pets? What about men? Mercury stores itself in the brain. It's TOXIC. The USA doesn't make them. CHINA MAKES THEM...TO POISON US AND POISON OUR LANDFILLS.
Why are we doing this? We could manufacture LED lighting IF we had the technology, which we do. There is a new flashlight in the house. It floods light for at least 300 feet of better than daylight. I grumbled that it was made in China. We need to make INEXPENSIVE LED LIGHTBULBS here in the USA that aren't toxic to us or our land.
Our government has outlawed incandescent bulbs. The LED lightbulbs which are super-efficient, exist here, but are very expensive. Our government wants you to buy from China. Why can't we make them here so that everyone can afford them. Their lifespan is unbelievable.
I want us to have available a supply of light made in the USA.
Am I wrong?

You NEED 100 watts once in a while.
Like, to light a dark room.
Not green? Not energy efficient?
Well then, DO NOT BUY THOSE CURLY-CHINESE MADE-MERCURY FILLED LIGHTBULBS THAT WILL MAKE YOU ILL IF YOU BREAK THEM! Have you seen the special hazmat containers at Lowe's and Home Depot so you can dispose of them safely?
Better do some research.
And the only country that makes them is China. Who's making the profit?
Have you read how to hand THE SITUATION OF A BROKEN LIGHTBULB IN YOUR HOME?

Light with a price...
In a world where green living is at least tucked somewhere in the back of everyone's mind, we have a bit of a problem.
In a year, incandescent light bulbs, Swan's and Edison's magnificent invention, will no longer be available for use. They are (gasp) energy eaters! We have been given a taste of those new, low energy mercury filled twisty-curly delights and now they will replace our old friend.
They last longer (one of mine just burned out yesterday after about a year), we are told, and energy consumption is so small, we are led to believe these will lead to sustainable energy, or at least wise energy consumption.
The big BUT here is that they contain MERCURY! Please read this link and ask yourself why these are being foisted upon us. I took that lightbulb that burned up and put it in a plastic container. When that plastic container goes into the landfill, it will degrade eventually, or be crushed and damaged. That lightbulb will release mercury into the landfill, to end up in our water or in the air. It is so terribly toxic that in this beautiful lake I live near and enjoy, we are cautioned not to eat the fish, especially the bass, who are at the top of the food chain. Children and pregnant women should not eat them at all. We have landfills that have been covered up and built upon, a paper mill, and an incinerator nearby that cannot contain the runoff from cleanup, besides being without its scrubbers.
Add hundreds of millions of these mercury-filled lightbulbs to the mix for which no recycling method is available, and there could be a catastrophe for your children, grandchildren and great grands.
Think about this one.
I am all for green living. I believe in low tech so much that I wouldn't mind sitting here peddling a generator attached to a battery to keep my computer charged. But these lightbulbs have the potential to be very dangerous on a mass scale. Mercury is mercury. Even in miniscule amounts, it is deadly.
It's the old thing about looking good on paper. But it's not so great when it becomes reality. You be careful around the children when one is broken. Ventilate the house. Watch yourself and your animals as well. This is NOT a good thing.
