September 12th: A Call to Action

Just as it has for the past decade, the rising sun on September 11th did it again. Our regional country-western radio station, KCTR, plays patriotic music on the anniversary of the 9-11 terrorist attacks, and it always coincides with my morning travels east on Old Highway 10 as I drive to my clinic. The blinding sun was just breaking over the Laurel skyline, and the bugs and scratches on my windshield made oncoming traffic dangerously invisible. However, waving clearly and proudly above the horizon in the golden morning sunlight was Old Glory attached to the structure found in every small town in rural America - the main street, corrugated-tin, grain elevator. With Johnny Cash referencing our stars and stripes with the words, "...she may be threadbare and wearing thin, but she is in good shape for the shape she's in," I had a lump in my throat and a tear in my eye, and I found myself driving slower and slower so as to savor what it means to be an American - at least to me. Ours is a great country, and it pains me greatly to think the blood spilled by patriots over 236 years could be washed away and forgotten by the results of this election.   
Over six years ago and against the wishes of campaign advisers, I launched this op-ed column when I entered the political arena in my first run for office. I was warned that my words would be used against me and that it would be easier to campaign from the middle of the road and just smile and wave a lot; however, that's something I simply cannot do. You and I have had over 300 one-way conversations addressing every possible political topic, and each week I try to jolt you with a political truth. You see, I love America, but I gravely fear for her future, and I refuse to go down without a fight.
Here is my concern: Everyone is a flag-waving patriot on September 11th, and then on September 12th, they collapse back to the misperceived safety of their big government cocoon. Liberalism is completely contradictory to the U.S. Constitution, so our founding document is ignored; the masses are given free stuff while the rest of us and our descendants are enslaved to pay for it. This should enrage most Americans, but I am afraid it does not.
Thursday night, I was rattling down a gravel road to treat a horse choking on pressed beet pulp when I passed a farm yard with a line of campaign signs supporting progressive candidates. "Is every one sleeping?" I mumble to myself. "Progressives in both parties are leading America on a path to complete collapse, and no one seems to notice or care."  Unfortunately, progressives refuse to be enlightened by logic, facts, or figures, so I just as well quit worrying about it and focus my attention on those who understand the difference between free stuff and freedom... two completely contradictory commodities. 
This election, voters who understand liberty must cast a freedom ballot, or forever wish they would have. Patriots, please consider this a call to action to be certain every like-minded individual you know is registered and timely casts his/her ballot. History shows that there will be legislative races decided by less than a dozen votes and U.S. Senate races settled by less than 4,000. Enslavement from full implementation of Obamacare could be decided by the people living on your creek, on your street, or in your small town. You be the one who stands up and saves our great American experiment in freedom because no one else will.

Editor's Note: Well, for what it's worth, I'm with you all the way, Krayton, from the tears-rolling-down-the-cheek flag-waving to the conservative vote-making. And this quote from Gerald Ford, our 38th President, seems particularly apropos: "A government big enough to give you everything you want is strong enough to take everything you have." I have little faith that the tsunami will be turned back. LG

The Patriot Jump

Tourist season has begun. If $4 gasoline or body cavity searches by blue-gloved TSA agents have dampened your family vacation plans, fire up your mini-van for an educational mini-trip closer to home. For example, Buffalo Jump State Park located southwest of Great Falls, Montana, has a nice visitor center plus walking paths above and below the cliffs, allowing you to perfectly visualize an 18th century bison harvest. The sweeping swell on top of this particular jump hides the cliff, so bison charging up the hill in the drags are blind to the fate of the lead disappearing over the horizon. Figuratively, bison and Americans are again gathering on top of the cliff, but it is the ironic twist to today's slaughter, which brings me to my point.
This winter, under the cloak of darkness and against Montana Code, 60 bison were relocated from the quarantine facilities of Yellowstone National Park (YNP) to the Fort Peck Reservation along the Missouri Breaks. This is the second of a four-step process to crush the republic and bring our populace into perfect dependence on big government - just as Karl Marx dreamed. If you missed steps one and two, you will likely refuse to acknowledge steps three and four, but I will explain them anyway. 
- Step One: Whether Walt Disney was a cause or an effect is uncertain, but his personification of animals allowed activists to gift Bambi rights equal to those endowed us by our Creator. Simultaneously and incrementally, government schools began promoting the religion of environmentalism until eventually state-sponsored worship of the earth and creation surpassed worship of our Creator. (If that last sentence made you wince, you see how deeply idolatry has infected the American soul.)
- Step Two: Fully indoctrinated Americans have deemed YNP bison as a "genetically pure" mascot worthy of worship as the golden calf. This May, our US Senate discussed legislation to designate the bison as our national mammal, while activists quietly acquired conservation easements and commandeered Montana water rights through the Clean Water Act. The noose of federal control quietly tightened around massive tracts of Montana's Missouri Breaks, and just as planned, 60 YNP bison appeared on the Fort Peck Reservation.
- Step Three (Prediction): Like clockwork, YNP bison will overpopulate and escape their temporary home, and within a decade, there will be thousands of bison ravaging The Breaks. Once Montanans discover the problem, it will be too late - just as it was with the introduction of the invasive species of the gray wolf.
- Step Four (Prediction): The world's economy will grind to a halt due to instability in the Middle East driving the price of gasoline over $25 per gallon. In desperation, America will attempt to develop the massive Bakken oil reserves of Montana and North Dakota, only to learn a future leftist president has issued a moratorium on all oil exploration to protect the habitat of our national mammal, the noble, YNP-origin, American Bison. Think about it.
Our great American experiment in freedom is stampeding off a cliff. Surrounded by bison, there are American patriots in the lead hollering about this being a trap, but their screams are ignored as they disappear from view and ear shot over the horizon. Slaughter on the Western plains has come full circle.

No book should ever be banned. We write, we read. We choose.

Just like a tv program, you can choose not to read a book.

I remember when I was a teenager, I could not wait to read "Lady Chatterley's Lover"; a book to read while baking in the sand of the Jersey shore. I would be swept away by the steamy scenes. My mother, a very straight-laced, proper woman raised an eyebrow, made a face, and let me read it.

You know what?

It was just a book. I wanted to read that book because it had been banned...somewhere.

It did not turn me in to a sex-crazed nymphomaniac. It did not turn me into a prostitute. I read it and forgot it. What I do remember is that...

it was no big deal.

I did not forget, however, the series of Louis Crisler's books on wolves, which reside on my bookshelves to this day.

Neither did I forget "Lonesome Dove". In the opening scene, I can smell the desert dust, hear the jingling of spurs, the smell of horse sweat, the perspiration of men who hadn't the opportunity to bathe in a while, hear the creak of saddle leather.

If a book is considered "perverted" enough to be banned, who judges? Lenny Bruce, a thinker, political observer and a comic, wrote that in order to be considered perverted, speech or the written word has to be judged by the most perverted mind that can be found.

Makes sense.

Would you eat at the Road Kill?

How I came across this foodie's blog, I don't know, but there it was. My favorite watering hole in McCleod, MT. It's a welcome pit stop when you're thirsty from exploring the Boulder River taking pictures. I complained bitterly this last trip in September about not finding a moose. Whine, whine, whine. My friend, a Montana native and I, had exhausted all known moose habitats within a 300-mile radius and found not one. No track, no sign, no nothing. Montana is devoid of moose, I had decided, but then, owner Pam directed me into the game room and there was my moose on the wall!

Not quite what I wanted to take home, but a funny memory remembered with a chuckle and a big smile.

I'm not a beer drinker, but in the heat of the day, those tall glasses of brew taste so good. I can only manage half a glass. After that I fall off the stool. Good thing my friend drives. If I could down two of them, I would have to take a siesta on the porch. Unconscious. Hand me a Pepsi chaser!

They don't serve road kill. Really. They don't. But lunch is served and will fill you up and put you in good humor.

It's a funny name for a funny, funky little roadhouse that serves fisherman, campers, tourists,
kayakers, hunters, cowboys, locals (there may be 20 in McCleod), and an occasional movie star.

When you're coming or going into Boulder River country, stop by and say I said "Hi"!

Have lunch. Watch the world stand still on the porch - if you're lucky you might see a couple of vehicles go by to remind you you haven't gone to heaven. Pet the dogs. Meet some really nice folks. Life is good at the Road Kill.

They are trying to kill America and themselves!

Why are secular progressives trying to destroy our Freedom and Liberty while destroying their own? They are killing America by passing the pork-loaded, fraud-laden stimulus, taking control of over 600 private banks, and the auto manufacturers by giving control to the unions as payback. They are trying to shove socialist health care down our throats by bribing senators to gain control over every citizen in America. They are sponsoring the fraud of global warming to justify the lie of cap and tax to nationalize private energy companies. Then worst, they are drowning America in trillions of dollars of debt, which will cause our future economic poverty. How can they do this, you ask.

There is a fable about a scorpion who asks a frog for a lift across the river. The frog, (a lover of freedom) very sensibly demurs; he has heard what scorpions (socialist) do with their stingers. The scorpion then reasons with the frog (hope and change) that it is silly to worry about his past reputation because if he killed the frog who was carrying him he would die himself. This is enough to persuade the feckless amphibian to trust the scorpion, (Like most Americans, the frog wants to think good of others and therefore believes the lie) and he takes on his dubious passenger. Halfway into the voyage the scorpion stings his host. The frog, in his death throes, says, "Why did you do that? Now you will die too." The scorpion replies, "It's our nature."

The scorpions past reputation of lies and treachery defined his nature and the secular progressives past defines their nature. Obama the leader of the secular progressives is a disciple of the radical organizer Saul Alinsky and was a “how to” trainer for the corrupt community organization called Acorn. He worshiped at the throne of a religion where hate was an anointed doctrine and praised the leader. Obama hired Van Jones, a self-professed Marxist as his Czar over non-existent green jobs as pay back for helping organize the stimulus package our two progressive Senators didn’t read but voted for. Obama, in full view of the world, bowed to honor foreign dictators who sponsor tyranny. He deceptively spoke about hope and lied about the change he would implement if elected. To name a few of his hundreds of lies, he lied about sponsoring transparency, he lied about the effect and reason for the stimulus, he lied about the elements in his socialist health care, and in his state of the union speech he filled it with dishonesty and deceit and all the progressives stood and gave him a resounding round of applause. Progressives will not stop the deception because they are always learning but cannot come to the knowledge of the truth. Like the scorpion, their past is the only thing that does not lie! Obama’s past is the only thing we can count on to forecast his future actions!

Is America’s president trying to drown America in trillions of dollars of debt so he and fellow congressional progressives can create a new order after America’s economic collapse? Should we fear secular progressives want statism, a scheme to turn America into a serfdom like a “Communist Socialist State” or maybe a European-style socialist democracy? Either way, if the secular progressives succeed, they will drown America in the river of inequity along with themselves. How can they do this, you ask. The progressive replies, “It’s our nature.”

Benjamin Franklin a patriot and founding father wanted America to avoid the debacle of statism when he replied to a woman who asked what kind of Government have you given us: “A Republic, Madam, if you can keep it.” Can we keep a government by the people for the people? Where government is subservient to the people and the people are in control of their own destiny?

Yes, I believe America patriots will keep our Republic because we are slowly rising from the throes of progressive treachery and are filled with righteous anger. Scott Browns election to the Senate in a liberal state is evidence of America’s patriot’s awareness of the progressive nature. This battle is no longer between Democrat and Republican. It is an ideological civil war where progressives are trying to annihilate the “Republic for which we stand.” A Republic built by the people, for the people in the name of Freedom and Liberty for all, but now it is under extreme assault by duly elected officials who are trying to destroy our Constitution and our Country. All Patriots know it is now time for the purest form of change, justice, and the progressive’s had better fear America’s past reputation.

Americans were born of the Sons and Daughters of Liberty, and weaned from tyranny on the blood that was poured out of their bodies fighting for Freedom and Liberty. Americans patriots sang the Battle Hymn of the Republic, “He is trampling out the vintage where the grapes of wrath are stored; His truth is marching on” as they fought and died in a bloody civil war uniting our country and freeing the slaves. Brave Americans stormed the beaches of Normandy, Iwo Jima, to name a few, and freed countries like Germany, Italy, Japan, France, and China, and lately Iraq and Afghanistan, fighting tyranny as we bled, died and mourned giving Freedom and Liberty to millions of innocent people. America is not faultless, it is merely the greatest country that has ever lived and its people have proven to be selfless making America the home of truth, the free, and the brave. This is why mere liars, the arrogant, scorpions, and the fornicators of liberty will not succeed in taking our freedom.

“We the People” of this great county are organizing, educating, and activating our army of patriots to vote these creatures out of office, both Democrats and those Republicans who have joined forces with the Scorpions in the attack against our Republic. Every patriot needs to get into action by every means available by educating themselves and others; spreading information the progressive media refuses to report; helping to get every voter their opportunity to cast their well-informed vote for Freedom and Liberty; holding local and national media accountable for their actions by writing editorials denouncing there bias then canceling subscriptions and organizing and supporting alternative media; organizing community meetings to discuss local and national politics and whether or not an elected officials in our state and federal government are behaving like Patriots or scorpions. Then we will vow to never again turn a blind eye to any politician. This will be the beginning of the end for progressives. They are no match for truth, righteousness, and the state of mind born from Patrick Henry, “give me liberty, or give me death,” as we sing Glory, glory, hallelujah!

How can they do this, the scorpions ask. The American Patriot replies, “It’s our nature.”

Subject: Our Constitution is Being Destroyed

Hello Patriots! Right now, in Washington DC, our elected officials are destroying the US Constitution on a daily basis and yet nothing is being done to stop them. Almost all recent legislation enacted by Congress is unconstitutional, flat and simple.

The US Constitution is a marvel, as it is a simple document that is not difficult to read or understand, yet contains the precise language that allowed the governing of our country for more than 200 years and enabled us to become the most prosperous free country in the world.

Why is it now that our elected officials have opted, without authority, to throw away the Constitution and make up their own rules for governing our country? Was there a recent Constitutional Convention that none of us are aware of? The sad and scary answer is that liberal elements in Congress, aligned with a liberal President, are purposefully destroying the Constitution and in doing so is endangering our freedom and liberty.

Where is the Constitutional authority for bank bailouts, auto company bailouts, mandated health insurance, cap & trade energy schemes? I have read the Constitution many, many times, yet have found no authority for any of these things.
When pushed up against the wall and asked this hard question, liberals in Congress promoting these agendas use the "general welfare clause" referred to in the preamble of the Constitution.

Anyone falling for this explanation is a victim of the "dumbing down" of America over the last few decades. The words in the preamble of the Constitution need to be re-visited occasionally, so here they are:

"We the People of these United States, in order to form a more perfect Union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America".

Read the line "promote the general welfare", and then look at the definition of the word "promote". "Promote" is defined as "to contribute to the progress, development, or growth of; to further, or encourage". It does not mean to mandate or provide for. Our founding fathers knew the exact language they were using; look at the phrase in the preamble "provide for the common defence". They used the specific word "provide" because that was their intent- to provide for the common defence. "Provide means "to supply or furnish; set as a condition, or stipulate". That is why we have a federal military force, because the Constitution provides for it.

If our founding fathers had intended to "provide" for the general welfare, they would have used the precise language to make that provision. But they didn't- and no Constitutional amendment has either. The conclusion I come to is that Congress is acting outside of the Constitutional authority granted them when they enact such legislation. There is no other explanation. And by doing so they are endangering the security of another thing in the preamble, "the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our posterity".

I don't want to ramble on, but in this current debate over government health care the simple answer seems to be that there is no Constitutional authority for it. We need to return our nation back to the Constitutional roots it was founded on, anything outside of that is detrimental to our country and it's future.
