Americans CAN BE EASILY energy independent.  Think about this, knowing full well we have oil, natural gas, oil sand, and technology to make ALL coal burn pollutant free, FOR CENTURIES...we import our oil mostly from Muslim and communist countries. 

We are exporting OUR OIL to foreign countries, and China is one of them.

Build refineries, exploit our natural gas because it's coming out of the ground anyway when a well is successfully drilled, and use everything we have to become independent of MUSLIM AND COMMUNIST COUNTRIES.  AND DON'T GIVE OUR PRECIOUS ENERGY RESOURCES TO "ENEMIES".
