India - beware Monsanto cotton genes/hybrids

I am hearing now the problems of the introduction of sprays, hybrid plants with genetically engineered DNA.

Any genetically engineered seeds can be poisonous or can contain allergens. The actual gene are put in the cotton to kill insects (also in corn and other crops).

The chemical called Bt is in cotton, corn, oilseed cakes, livestock feed. Shepherds of animals in India feeding on cotton plants (sheep, too in 2006), showed 25% of the flocks died within 7 days of ingestion. An estimated 10K sheep died in India. The shepherds never used pesticides. The flocks were either fed cottonseed cakes or grazed on the picked off cotton plants.

There is a quote - it goes something like "Those who control the food, control the world."

Is this science, or is it a way to practice eugenics - the eugenics of food supply?

Through cross pollination, our original seeds - our heirloom seeds - will also mutate.

This is a compelling matter to research. How do we counter this?
