I was watching Andrew Zimmern on Bizarre Foods, and in a segment on San Francisco, this was covered.

An absolutely wonderful project.  Markets waste so much food - I know I walk past things I can't afford but would like to, and I'm not alone...engage a fellow shopper in conversation with they, too, pass something up.

The food will go into the trash...out of date?  Perfectly safe to eat?  Dumped.

And why on earth would ANY MUNICIPALITY ARREST PEOPLE WHO FEED OTHERS?
