Matt James, 17, dies in Panama City Beach, FL on Spring Break

He is the second to die in a balcony fall this year, caused by drinking.

Matt had a wonderful future ahead of him.

In another entry here, I asked parents and children primed for Spring Break in Panama City and elsewhere, to be very careful.

My heart goes out to the parents of these children who come here for fun, and end up hurt or dead.

This is the price to pay for sending unchaperoned children who think they can handle alcohol and drugs and violence on spring break.

Bottom line - they are still children. And they can't.

I hope that Bay County, Florida will promote this area as a family resort. True, the stores that sell alcohol may suffer, but so what?

Our beaches are beautiful. We have loads of empty rooms and condos. We have excellent restaurants and are multifaceted - you have the beach, and you have the creek system with kayaks and canoes aplenty.
